How to prepare

Book an appointment with your Careers Service – they generally offer practice psychometric testing, interviews and advice on completing application forms.
Attend one of our skills sessions. We’ll be on campus throughout the year providing guidance on interview techniques – check our events calendar to get the dates.
Review your resume. Think through your potential examples and structure your answers using the STAR technique:
- Situation/Task: What was the situation or task? Remember, you need to set the scene for the interviewer.
- Action: What did you do? What role did you play? Don’t fall into describing what ‘we’ did. This is about exploring your behaviour.
- Result: What was the outcome? What did you learn?
Don’t be afraid to provide negative examples – things can go wrong as well as right in business and you need to be able to learn from both.
It may sound basic, but be sure you are clear in your own mind why you are applying – why BNP Paribas? Why (for example) an Analyst position in EQD? If you don’t know the answers then you will struggle to articulate this to others. Remember, we can only assess you on the information you provide.
Research our industry. Read the financial pages. Attend campus presentations. Speak to our representatives. At the very least, use these web pages to build a better understanding of how we work or visit our main site.
The best candidates are the most prepared – it’s that simple.
