Can you describe your role in the business and the kind of work you get involved in?

I’m a Credit Analyst in the Corporate Banking team. My job mainly involves preparing credit applications for the approval of loans and other lines for corporate clients. As part of my job, I keep myself up-to-date with the latest industry and client specific information – I do this in various ways, from reading newspapers through to analysing research reports. It’s important because it helps me to form a clear and current view on the industry and to develop comprehensive business models for the client.

What surprised you most about BNP Paribas?

I’d heard about the people friendly culture at BNP Paribas during a presentation at my campus. However, I was still surprised by just how true that is. Within about a month of joining, I saw one of the best examples of this. During the 2005 Mumbai floods, people at the BNP Paribas office in Akruti (Mumbai) went to help students of a school who’d got stuck on a nearby road and did everything they could to make them comfortable as well as informing their parents. I felt proud to be part of such an organisation. Also, the approachability of the bank’s top management is something that I think really makes the bank stand out.

How are you encouraged to be entrepreneurial?

I was entrusted with responsibility at a very early stage. I had the opportunity to learn by doing which helped me to develop an entrepreneurial attitude and allowed my ideas to flourish. I’ve been here for just over two years and have observed that the bank places a lot of responsibility and trust in individual employees.

How have you progressed?

Now I work on complex credit proposals. I work closely with relationship managers as these typically involve a higher degree of risk and hence deeper analysis. I’ve undergone training both here and abroad and, apart from those which help my own job profile, I’ve been able to attend training in areas that interest me, like derivatives.

What advice would you give to someone who’s thinking of joining us?

BNP Paribas provides a unique package comprising ample opportunities for professional growth along with a balanced personal life. I think it’s one of the best learning experiences in banking.
