Could you describe an average day?

I observe the oil market, work on the marketing daily report and send the report out to our clients before noon. There are always team discussions or group meetings going on and participating in them enhances my knowledge and professional skills. There are also plenty of opportunities to liaise with our clients through emails, over the phone or at client meetings. Every day is exciting as I’m constantly developing new knowledge and getting to know new people.

What were the key things that attracted you to BNP Paribas?

It’s one of the most prestigious banks in the world so I knew I’d have a lot of opportunities here. The bank emphasises employee training, development and benefits so I knew it would be a good starting point.

How would you describe your role?

As an oil marketer, I get to closely monitor the market movement, understand the oil trading mechanism and master related financial knowledge. I provide information and consultation to our clients, hedge their exposure and manage their risk.

How soon did you get responsibility?

Within one month of joining, I was in charge of the daily marketing report and I started to handle some client accounts. It was really exciting as I was talking to clients myself and starting to make deals. Now my client portfolio continues to expand.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

I need to bring in more business for the commodity derivatives sector, which not only requires me to develop my knowledge about the oil market but also all the skills I need to engage effectively with perspective clients.

What’s the culture like?

The culture here is dynamic, constantly changing and encouraging. I feel the pressure at crucial stages of projects, but it’s great to collaborate with a large group of friendly people from diverse backgrounds. My colleagues are very friendly – they are always willing to teach me and the team spirit encourages me to go forward.
