Increasingly the design and implementation of processes and systems that enable us to complete transactions accurately and on time is a point of competitive differentiation – particularly in areas such as flow trading where it’s not the product but the quality of client service that matters. Operational excellence enhances our reputation and encourages clients to work with us again and again.
Operations professionals work with every business area to develop the processes and structures that deliver smooth, accurate and timely completion on all transactions – ensuring that every commitment the bank makes is delivered on time, on budget. Their work enables the bank to conduct business globally, supporting, enhancing and optimising the performance of the other divisions and helping to integrate new acquisitions smoothly. From facilitating the launch of new offices, business lines and products to managing projects, operational risk and large volumes of complex transactions every day, Operations professionals are at the heart of everything CIB does.
Working in Operations, you will develop an in-depth knowledge of finance and investment banking and gain experience in managing complex projects.
As an Operations Analyst your main role will be to facilitate the smooth running of our business by ensuring accurate and timely processing of trades, clear communication between colleagues and business lines, and helping identify and resolve every day issues.
Wherever you are based, you'll undertake a number of short-term placements in various teams, to raise your overall knowledge of our business. These teams may include Equities, Futures, Fixed Income and Commodities to Accounting Control & Risk and Shared Services.
Throughout the graduate development programme you will assist with various operational activities, including: trade support; trade reconciliation and documentation; the production, analysis and control of Profit & Loss; product control; collateral management; and client support. You'll also participate in projects aimed at improving efficiency and best practice throughout our business.
To succeed in Operations you will need strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, while an awareness of and sensitivity to risk will help you deal with operational risk and regulatory challenges. You’ll need to be willing to challenge convention and approach problems from different perspectives as you work with internal and external clients to address problems. You’ll also need to be a strong communicator and relationship builder.
