Entry routes

There are a number of routes into BNP Paribas CIB through a series of structured programmes. These programmes are designed to provide you with the experience and exposure you need to further your career and interest in banking, wherever you are in your own personal journey. Our Easter Insight and Internship programmes will give you the chance to experience our culture and the kind of work we do before you commit to a full-time position, either as an analyst or, if you have a higher degree or some industry experience, as an associate.

Ours is a complex, multi-dimensional business and different parts of our business look for different skills, experience and personal qualities. To develop an effective pipeline of talent for our businesses areas we have consolidated our programmes into three streams to serve business areas that have common requirements. These are Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Functions, which covers a diverse range of business support services such as Technology, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and Compliance & Control.

In applying to join our programmes, one of your first decisions should be to decide which area of the Bank interests you, and which entry route is the right one for you.

Easter Insight

Our London office runs a week-long Easter Insight programme for first-year university students offering an introduction and valuable insights into the world of corporate and investment banking, and to BNP Paribas CIB.

The Easter Insight week is a structured programme combining practical workshops and business presentations with social events and networking opportunities. These are designed to help you meet people from around the Bank, learn about what different areas do and where you might best fit into our organisation. The programme also introduces our Summer Internship programme, for which Easter Insight candidates are encouraged to apply.

Summer Internships

Our London and New York offices recruit approximately 80 Summer Interns for a 10 and 12-week structured programme respectively. Aimed at penultimate-year students, the scheme will give you a deeper insight into BNP Paribas CIB and help inform your final-year career choices.

The summer programmes are highly interactive and include formal training, workshops, speaker series, and networking and social events. Around our businesses the internship programmes are viewed as a high-potential pipeline for our graduate programmes. As an intern, you will be well supported both by the people you meet and by your ‘buddy’, who will work with you to maximise your exposure to our business and help you to get the most out of your summer with us.

Long-Term Internships

We recruit 500+ Long-term Interns globally on a rolling basis with contracts ranging from 4 – 11 months. A Long-term Internship will provide you with a detailed understanding of the investment-banking sector and give you the opportunity to experience a full-time role in any one of our business areas. From the outset you will be contributing to the output of your team, taking responsibility, working with sector-leading professionals on key projects and adding to your portfolio of skills and experience. Long-term Internships provide an exceptional platform from which to launch a career. To be eligible for a Long-term Internship you must still be in full-time higher education.

Full-Time Analysts and Associates

In 2010 we are looking to recruit full-time analysts and associates onto our two-year development programme in each of our core regions – Europe, the Americas and Asia. We offer three different programmes for our analysts and associates, these are Capital Markets (Fixed Income, Equities & Derivatives, Commodity Derivatives), Investment Banking (Corporate Finance, Structured Finance, Corporate & Transaction Group, Client Coverage) and Functions (Technology, Operations, Human Resources, Finance and Compliance & Control). Joining us as an analyst of associate you will begin a full-time role in one of our businesses, rather than rotating through a number of different areas. Our approach has always been to find the best fit for our graduates’ talents as early as possible and then start you in a substantive role where you can begin contributing from the outset. Visit Training & career development for full details of the structure and content of your programme.

Global Opportunities

Throughout BNP Paribas we are driving an initiative to achieve greater uniformity of culture and approach across our businesses, functional lines, locations and regions. Fundamental to this is the recognition of the value of mobility – encouraging and supporting our people in gaining experience in different parts of our business and in different locations.

This approach reaches right out to our recruitment strategies so, if you're studying in one location, London for example, but you're interested in a role in another location, let’s say Hong Kong, then you can state your preference in your application and you will be considered for that opportunity.

Remember though, that your application will be considered alongside other applications for that office – so you'll need to show us why you're the best candidate.

To give you the best chance of success we suggest you think about the abilities and qualifications you have that are relevant to your target location. Do you have relevant language skills or experience of the local market? Do you have any links in the area or any specialist expertise that will make you particularly useful to that office? Also, remember that you will be living in another country for a minimum of two years and, while we will help you settle in, you will be far away from your normal support networks.

If you think you are the right person for a role in one of our overseas offices, then we encourage you to apply. We like people who are internationally minded and prepared to take on new challenges and responsibilities. If your application is successful, we will help you to secure the work permits that apply in your case.
