Technology touches every part of BNP Paribas and underpins every deal we make. When a system is unavailable, millions can be lost, so robust programmes and infrastructure are more than important, they are fundamental to our ability to operate.

Another challenge is the evolving regulatory burden of the financial sector. Technology has to do more than keep up; it has to drive the changes and developments necessary to keep us ahead of the competition.

The Technology team is responsible for developing, implementing, operating and maintaining cutting-edge applications used across the business. Their key objective is to apply expertise in technology to business problems and deliver high-quality, practical solutions. That could mean developing new applications for our trading floors as well as for our downstream areas such as the Back Office, coding new modelling strategies, setting up the infrastructure for a new office, or working with colleagues in other functions to develop tools to enhance our risk measurement.

Understanding complex technology is one aspect, but a firm grasp of business issues is also essential. You could be working closely with our trading floor to develop the software that enables them to make the split second decisions that our business is founded on, or using your creativity and initiative to enhance our state-of-the-art systems and databases. Whatever the task our technologists work in a fast-moving environment where solutions move from concept to implementation in weeks and months rather than years.

We work in a Windows and Unix environment, using C++, Java, .NET, VB, Oracle and SQL Server. Our remit covers everything from providing critical support to areas throughout front and back office through to developing applications that give businesses access to real-time, 24/7 global trading information.

You'll need very strong technical skills, have a creative approach to problem solving and be committed to keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies - and how they can be applied to a business environment.
